Nestled in the middle of five rivers to the northeast of Karith but southwest of Baltil is a booming city that springs to life at night. The city of Joyau is built along the river ways and very much depends on the rivers’ existences. It is in the perfect place to be one of Revaliir’s number one location for trade, artisan works, and perhaps what it is most known for its gambling houses.

People from all around Revaliir come to Jayou to relax in its spa houses which are heated by the mighty forge in Baltil’s depths and to also participate in the nightlife that Jayou has to offer. Most of the buildings are fairly large to accommodate tourists, local residents, and businesses. The buildings have roofs that seem to flare out and up like ocean waves and most of the larger buildings have tall steeples that cascade towards the sky with several of the same swooping designs.

Most of the buildings are made out of aplite which is mined from the surface near Baltil. The shingles of each building appear to be made from mahogany wood and the steeples are crafted with gold instead of aplite giving it a more regal appearance. Each of the buildings has motifs carved into them giving the city extra detail when looking closely. The motifs are mostly depicting random mandalas, however, some of them do depict legends from around Parvpora. At night these motifs light up with multi-colored fairy lights from Feeorin Forest. The city comes to life best during peak nighttime hours when all that can be seen from far away are the lights from the motifs and the lamps from the river market and business section.

Most of the gambling can be found in exotic boats that drift down and up the mighty rivers picking up passengers as they go. Near the center of all five rivers are the merchants who house their wares on smaller boats or if they have found their riches medium size houseboats.

Artisans have made their home on the outskirts of Jayou towards Baltil where an abundance of minerals that they need to craft can be found. It isn’t uncommon for artisans to have their own boat houses but most that need a forge find themselves on land. The spas of Jayou can be found near the artisans since the bathhouses rely on the heat from Baltil. This is the most luxurious part of town from its buildings to even its streets. The riverboats that bring tourists to this section of town are far more detailed and expensive compared to other sections of Jayou.

Don’t let the pleasures of the city fool you, however, as there is more to Jayou than what meets the eyes. The underbelly of the city sprawls underground as well. Passages can be found all over the bustling city. This is where the seedier operations occur and where more high stakes gambling takes place. While the law has complete control of the above portion of Jayou the underbelly is run by groups of prestigious families who rule with an iron fist. Many people have been killed for the debt they owe or even sold into slavery to pay back their debt.

The underbelly is a series of caverns that have been carved out into spacious homes. Lamps light up the way along the pathways and above with wooden chandeliers as well. Brothels, gambling houses, and the black market all operate down in the underbelly and only the strong or intelligent should make their way this far into Jayou.
