City of Baltil Main Description

There are many ways into the city but the finest way in would be the Hall of Gears. Specially made glass lines the hallway and flooring. Under the mage glass, there are many gears moving, showing the inter-workings of the city. These gears are maintained daily by experienced craftsmen. Moving up towards the actual entrance of the city, some of the largest gears in existence sit still. After a few words, the large gears begin to turn and open the gates, allowing one and all to enter.

“Welcome to Baltil!” A proud dwarf yells. Once past the gates, you realize that you are standing on a cliff. Looking around you can see different parts of the city, both above and below. A bell rings and the sounds of gears beginning to turn come to your ears. Steadily a carriage comes across the gap to where you are standing. Alternatively, you can try your luck with one of the numerous giant spotted lizards with saddles. These critters can run you up and down the city thanks to their limbs producing a sticky substance.

The city itself is run by a gear and pulley system mounted on the cave. If something goes wrong the dwarves are fast to fix it and make sure no casualties happen. Lamps are hung up all around the city and especially at the ports where carriages come to unload and reload. The city is protected by the last creations of the god that the dwarves worshiped. They are intelligent automatons constructed out of gears of gold and silver and seem to be able to have reasoning built into them. They would not hesitate to defend the city of dwarves from any attackers.

On the lowest level of the city, there is a sleeping forge, the largest of its kind. At all times there are gifts from the people of the city who miss Zujiuchu. There are people here who still follow his religion and still keep his temple spotless. There are large gold fountains throughout his temple where ale flows instead of water. Though the forge is cold, its heart still burns fiercely within the people.

The marketplace for Baltil is rather unique as well. Using the pulley system they are able to line large gears up and create a large gathering spot in the center of the cave. This is where all the trading happens during the day.

Old Forge Tavern Description

Travelers moving along the pulley system enabling access around the dwarven city of Baltil will almost always wind up at the Old Forge Tavern, the famous centerpiece in the upper part of the city, suspended by strong cables. It is not known exactly how these cables function, but it is said that Zujiuchu placed the tavern there, and still it remains, long after his passing.

The tavern is pristine in condition, comparable to much of the ancient city. Just as one would expect from a city of dwarves, only the finest materials have been used in its construction. Instead of a sign hanging across the stone platform, the name of the Old Forge is carved into the flagstones. All are welcome to the tavern, often greeted with a smile from the busty well-groomed barmaids, some of whom sport beards rivaling their male counterparts.

The seats in this fine establishment are not run of the mill chairs but made from a barrel of their finest wine. They are low to the floor just like the tables so the barmaids can serve everyone. The tables are made from a barrel with a table top, with beautiful designs etched into it as well. The seats located at the bar are different since the bar sits higher up. so these stools are regularly filled to the brim barrels. The liqueur is of the finest quality and found nowhere else in Revaliir.

Dragon's Hoard Description

There is one hallway that leads from the city of Baltil that is more guarded than others. The hallway's entrance is carved to resemble a fierce dragon's head, and the guards appear to be mostly interested in keeping people from going into the entry. There are no doors, and torches light the hallway. It winds around, up and down, giving little hint as to what direction that the tunnel leads from the city. Eventually, it opens out into a large cavern, and one of the largest collections of wealth to be found within Parvpora. But there is a very good reason for the guards…

A great dragon slumbers within one of the chambers in the cavern, dreaming of fire and blood and gold. For the most part, Cordath the Firestarter remains asleep. He is ancient and rarely needs to be conscious. But occasionally something will stir him to action. It has become considered a right of passage for young dwarves to sneak into the treasure-filled halls and steal something without awakening the dragon. Treasures from all over the world, and many periods of time litter the halls. Everything from fine weapons and armor to works of art to gaudy coffins and more are found in every corner, as well as heaps of gems and coins. The coins can be from modern empires, and from ones long forgotten as well. Jewelry, both modern and ancient, can be found as well scattered throughout the caverns, from every conceivable type of metal and gems.

There are two main exits to the cavern. One is a massive hole in the side of the mountain, and Cordath uses this to leave on his occasional forays into the world. There is also a pathway carved from the hallway that leads back to Baltil, which also leads to the mountainside. This pathway leads along the outer edges of the caverns, and there are a number of hiding holes, just in case the dragon awakes.
