Settled at the top end of the Fairground looms The Arena, a towering amphitheatre lit by flickering torches and cast in shadow. The Priests from the Cult of Blood and Shadow, once thought to be dead, stand on either side of the dark doorway that leads into the Arena itself. Each bow their hooded heads and motion into the depths.

Torches light the way into the inner foyer where the Cult have set up tables for contestants to sign up, the rest of the Priesthood directing spectators to their sites along the edges of the Amphitheatre itself.

“Greetings fair warrior, may the Gods of Darkness shine their blessing upon you this evening. If you wish to sign up to fight in the arena, please pick a numbered card from the table and answer the riddle - if you guess it correctly, we will give you some helpful hints in regards to the creature that you will be facing; if you guess incorrectly, you will have to fight them with no help whatsoever.”  The Priests bow their heads and motion to the cards, awaiting the warriors to choose their fate and face the Bloodied Gates, and the creatures locked behind.

Solstice

Character Info
Name: Mithras
Age: Timeless
Alignment: CG
Race: Unknown
Gender: Male
Class: Primal Lord
Silver: 0
Another festivity, this time one that took place not too far from the Ancense Ruins. When the lion-headed lord heard that an arena was built for contestants to test their mettle in combat, there was nothing else in the fair that mattered. An impressive yet dimly lit structure of grand design greeted Mithras, and he passed by the hooded figures which gave him deference. Many others had gathered here; battle-hardened warriors and those who relished in the thrill of a fight–people not unlike him. When he saw the tables where the fighters were signing their names, he flashed his teeth in a grin. With bold strides, it was soon his turn before the seated hooded individual. As the figure with their face obscured motioned for him to draw his lot, the primal lord's eyes fell on one and he removed it from the rest. Flipping the card, the number on the opposite face was 6. Showing the number to the hooded one, he awaited the riddle with crossed arms. He would answer to the best of his ability, but no matter the result–he was looking forward to a good fight. The lion-headed lord didn't want his challenge to lose its edge; he wanted to savor the bout. Not knowing what sort of fearsome beast these priests would put him up against was making the blood burn in his veins with anticipation!

Beware, beware! His flashing eyes, his floating hair!
Weave a circle round him thrice, and close your eyes with holy dread;
For he on honey-dew hath fed, and drunk the milk of Paradise.

From beneath the sheltered hoods, black orbs watched as the first arrival decided to make his attempt. Even if it couldn’t be seen there was a glint of anticipation for what could be brought by any outsiders. The Cult hoped for the failure of each opponent all in the name of their religion. Their horrors would appreciate the blood spilled in their name. From beneath a cloak a cracked hand reached out to indicate the cards available for selection. As the card numbered six was flipped over, a grated laugh escaped the shadowed priest.

”You will take the chance that you seek within the ring, young warrior. What intelligence do you bring to the field?” The man retracted his hand back into his robe. ”I can only live where there is light, but I die if the light shines on me. What am I? The riddle was posed to the warrior in hopes that failure would be the result.

((OCC: roll was 7 – player gets riddle correct))

”I am Shadows,” the warrior responded with a confident smile.

Agitated growl was the response along with a card put forward from beneath the robe. ”Take this and may the odds be in your favor…if it can.” The priest stepped back with annoyance still rolling off of him.

((OCC: your card is shown below along with the monster you will be facing! Step into the ring, and take on the beast. You still have the opportunity to bring in a partner or two to help with your fight. Make sure to post a separate thread. Fight on!))
