The waves crashed upon the shore of the small island, slowly getting closer to the two figures on the sandy beach. Neither stirred for the longest time. It wasn’t until the ocean’s water sprayed on the man’s face that he awoke. Years of muscle memory kicked in, and he bolted up, looking around.

There was nothing except a woman in ragged clothes that matched his. They were alone.

He groaned, holding his head. His whole body felt heavy and sluggish. What is all this? Judging by the sun, it was still early morning.

The man got up carefully, trying to keep balance as the world swayed. The woman that was with him still wasn’t moving. Making sure she was okay would be the first step. He walked over to her; a painstakingly slow process as he tried to overcome whatever ailed him.

“Hey…” He fell down next to her, and started to shake her. “Hey! Wake up!” She was hauntingly beautiful, even in her distraught state. Though, to most, she might seem rather plain. Other than her ragged clothes, it looked as though she had no physical injuries.

“You need to wake up!”

~Simone.~

Was that her name?

Hesitantly, he opened his mouth to say her name. The name…it was familiar on his lips. He had called it before many times.

“Simone, you need to wake up!”

It seemed like she was lost in a vivid nightmare. Swirling pools of rapid water. The struggle for breath. The feeling of being weighed down against the weight of a large body of water. It was so terrifyingly vivid. When she finally woke up she was startled.

What stared back at her was a shocking swirl of blue, brown, and green. It was a breathtaking hazel color. There was a concern as her name left his lips. “How do you know who I am?”

Was that who she was? She thought she knew… How did they get here? Where did they come from? The man beside her was dressed in similar clothes.

~Lewis~

The noise made her head hurt as she winced. “Then you… Are Lewis?” The bloodshot eyes she had made the blue stand out even greater than normal in her eyes. Her whole body hurt and all she could taste was the salt from the sea that was whirling around them.

“I think… We’re lost…” She put her hands to her head and attempted to get up but failed several times. There was a strong determined look on her face as she finally used him to get up. Would anyone even know they were there?

“I… think we’re going to be here a while… So…” Looking around she didn’t have the first clue where to start. “Food… I think… We should get food.” One look at the ocean and the whirling brought back the nightmare and soon she was over a bush vomiting up whatever was in her stomach. She fell again and put her back against a large palm tree away from the water. Even the sound was causing her to dry heave now as she tried to get herself together. What she was feeling was bashing against Lewis like the ocean itself. It was fear. She was terrified.

It was a relief when she finally opened her eyes, but it was quickly overtaken by something pressing against his thoughts. It was raw and primal, but it was there for only a moment before it went away. And she said his name.

That was the only possible thing it could be. It was at this point that he realized something was wrong.

I don’t even know my name. He had come across a woman on an island that he had no memory of, with not even his name, and yet…

He knew hers.

This was all too much to handle at the time.

Simome moved to get up, and fell back a few different times. Lewis wasn’t in much of a better situation, and knew better than to offer his aid to her. Moments later, Simone finally managed to scramble up, using Lewis to steady herself.

“Of course…” he muttered under his breath. She was one of those types of women. The kind that were too stubborn for their own good. But, ultimately, she was right.

“Food is a good start,” Lewis said as he forced himself onto his feet. The island could be considered small, but it had a small set of trees. It would be a pain in the ass, but if he cou-

At once, a wave of nausea overtook him, and he fell back to his knees, coughing up what little contents his stomach had. What the hell!? It was so sudden, and without any warning something else washed over him.

That primal feeling again…that assault on his senses. He recognized it to his core: fear.

But why? Why was he feeling this? There was nothing on the island around him. Through the intense feelings, he looked up to see Simone mere feet away experiencing similar sensations, except hers seemed more intense.

“For the love of gods,” Lewis muttered as he crawled over to her, and pushed her down. He pinned her by her shoulders, and stared into her eyes. “Calm down! Breath!” There was little reason in logic for this to work, but at this point logic wasn’t even in the equation.

They were stranded on an island in the middle of nowhere, with nothing but each other to survive, and for whatever reason…Lewis was linked to Simone.
