The Nyella Ocean have proven time and again to be very treacherous towards all except for the bravest and most prepared. These wide blue waters are so vast that it may be months before ships see land; that’s if they don't meet with a watery grave from the frequent thunderstorms and the raging waves. Many that journey through here pray that they don't get hurled from their ships during these ordeals because there's a strong possibility that they will be lost in the dark, cold waters. In cases where the victims are spotted struggling against the tide, the crew may not be so keen on rescuing them. The area is said to be cursed by one of the ancient sea deities that during her reign, had demanded sacrifices from those that cross her domain. If those chosen by the curse are saved from its clutches, then the whole party would be swallowed up by the sea instead. Despite it being an old sailor's tale, many sailors believe in the story and will likely sail onward to appease its mistress. Even when it's at its calmest, one can never let their guard down while in the area for giant seaweed like appendages can reach up from the depths at any moment and attempt to take down any ship in its grasp.

Although quite known for being dangerous, the Nyella Ocean is also famous for its many mysteries. One of them being a chain of several isles that disappear and reappear at random times of the day. Some say that they are merely illusions, perhaps a cruel joke that has to do with the old sea goddess’ curse; others claim to have actually dock onto these lands for a night or two before fleeing back to their ships and watching in horror as the isles sunk back into the deep.

Another strange occurrence has been numerous accounts of people witnessing large shadows swimming beneath the water, and sometimes even below their ships. Some have swore that at dawn, they seen beautiful fins and tails illuminating the colors of the rainbow just before they withdrew from sight. One sailor has claimed to have seen what these beasts may look like. One evening, he had been patrolling the ship's deck when he observed a serpent like being high above the ship; its body moved through the air as if it was swimming in water and its scales shined in rainbow like colors. Its sparkling eyes fell onto the ship before it dived into the water and was never seen again.

Contrary to popular belief, it is believed that these unknown creatures do not harbor ill will towards people at all, but rather they safeguard them and their presence alone brings good luck and ensures safe travel. As a result,, they have received the nickname “the guardians under the waves”.
