The change in Kaya had been swift and unexpected, as it had been with all the others afflicted across Revaliir. The signs had been subtle, at first, she had been quiet and unlike herself, no longer volunteering to lend a hand with the Guild, or to visit with Luna in the shop… she spent days at a time in her Wolf form, sticking to the forests, trudging an ever expanding parameter around the ruins they called home, until it tools days for her to return rather than hours.
Her family spoke in hushed whispers, Luna even gracing the Guild Hall with her presence to remark upon the strange attitude of her elder sister, the middle triplet trying not to convey her worry, but Luna could not hide her maternal concerns; different though she was to her mother and two other siblings, she could still be read like a book in certain aspects. Kaya was one of them.
It was during a conversation about Kaya’s condition, and others they knew who were exhibiting the same symptoms, that the ground began to shake. Kiba had steadied his heavily pregnant mother, while Kythe grasped her swollen belly to shield her boys from the tremors, willing her rapidly growing pair (too rapidly for her liking, she was farther along than she should have been) to remain where the were for the time being. Orbs appeared around all of them, one green the other red, vibrant and glowing in the sudden darkness since the candles had all gone out. It did not take a genius to understand what they were, especially when one’s son was Champion to Angela. Orbs of Life and Love.
Just as the family began to realise the dire situation one of their own was in, Kaya had entered the archives, padding on all fours , golden fur shimmering in the remaining candle light. One orb of vibrant green… the other… the faintest red. She was losing herself, losing her love, which all of them knew to fuel her very being. She was living, but she was not alive, not now, she was feral and drifting from them with every passing hour.
Kythe and Kiba had reached out to her, to try and touch the Wolf before them… but she had bared her fangs, hackles raised, snapping her jaws at them before turning and bolting from the Hall. For once, Tymor did not question what his Mistress required of him, he would follow the wolf until another could lend him another pair of eyes, they would keep a watch on her.
And watch Tymor did, sending images back to Kiba’s own little dragon, so that he knew where his beloved had gone. He was Champion, he had to do his duty to Angela, but no one could debate the internal conflict he must be under to follow after his lover… sadly Kythe was in no condition to, Raith had his own duties, and Luna had her children. So the task, for now, fell to the Wyvern.
She had travelled far, spurred ever onwards by her desire to find new territory, her own was filled with others and that was not good for a Wolf, she had to keep going. There was little left of Kaya’s logical mind, not the one ruled by love and loyalty to her family and friends, that part was losing its fight and she was pushed ever onward by Life and instinct. It was instinct that had led her to Vada, under the ever watchful eye of her mother’s Wyvern, a desperation to find a safe place… where plants could not lash out at her, pull at her fur and whip her… she had to keep going.
