Himiria Scar Description
Named after the star that carved it out, the Himiria Scar is the impact point of the meteorite that shaped the geography of the Valley. While most who travel through Vada on their way to Sularia take the Sky Tram across the Scar itself to view the majestic trees and crystal that brought the waters to the once desolate land, there is one safe road across the Tail of the Scar, and it is marked by glowing crystal rods. Venturing off the safe path any distance will render the ground as unforgiving as the strongest quicksand which stretches across the tail of the scar.
The quicksand only lasts for a moment before traveler, horse, and wagon will plummet hundreds of feet to the waiting ground below. This is the Himiria Scar: great trees sprung forth around the crystal spire, and over time, solidified as stone, making only one safe path across the expanse. From above, what had appeared to be a vast grey flatland becomes the foliage of ancient trees, that in spots do in fact break up, and allow some very limited filtered sunlight through to the world below. The world down here is hot and sticky, and though the trees have become petrified, there is plenty that still lives and thrives. Here, smaller monoliths of crystal similar to the spire seen above are dotted through the valley, carved with ancient writings that don't have a common translation. Their placement seems random, but a closer exploration of the valley will note that these smaller monoliths are spaced in an even circle around the giant spire at the edge of the crater, creating some sort of perimeter. Several clans of strange humanoids make their homes in the inner circle of the Scar. They have a curious habit of always covering their faces, men and women alike, unless among those that are most trusted, and even then, only when inside their huts. They are strong, lithe, and keen hunters, who bear remarkably tanned skin for their near subterranean home, and have glowing turquoise tattoos that mark their tribe and family. Curiously enough, the only facial features that are ever seen are their eyes, which hold a strange luminescence and are similar in kind to those of a cat's, but can come in a variety of different colors.
The Scar, while beautiful and exotic and indeed strange is not without its dangers, and any of the natives will warn you: do not venture outside the monoliths after the light has vanished. At night, Vada becomes a door to the shadow realm, and living shadows emerge from the darkness to feast upon those who are caught unwitting outside the protective circles. The only thing that stops them is the Moonbeams that are captured by the spire and reflected into its sister monoliths below, who disperse a protective halo of the heavenly light. Because the spire absorbs the moonlight, the tribes remain safe even on nights when Canelux and Parvpora are missing from the skies. The giant spire keeps the living shadows from breaching the perimeter of the crater, thus protecting the rest of Revaliir from the darkness below.
