Ameru, Refuge of the Depths [City]
To the east of Eritea lies the unique city of Ameru. Ameru itself is a giant organism that houses the entirety of its inhabitants within it, and much like Hoja Mesto of Parvpora, there is a certain give and take from both Ameru and the people. Ameru itself is akin to a giant jellyfish, using its natural state to ward of large predators and provide protection and shelter, while its dwellers utilize the interior to build marvelous structures throughout the whole creature.
Ameruan architecture is something quite special. A majority of the work is intricately worked stone and metal that interlocks in a way that bends to the will of Ameru, creating bridges and landings on multiple levels of Ameru without restricting its movement or causing constant destruction of the residents. The buildings themselves are a mixture of this stone and metalwork, as well as the utilization of a lot of glass.
As the residents do not have reliable sources of food, they create ‘greenhouse’ like buildings made of glass and metal in the shape of hanging orbs. These greenhouse orbs are scattered about the city, and provide the residents with the majority of its food, in combination with fish and other oceanic delicacies that Ameru filters through its base while it travels.
Ameru itself generates a unique type of magical energy that radiates through it, and the people of the city have learned to tap into it, creating magical lamps that light the many bridge-streets at all times. While some believe that this is an affront to the blessings of Ameru, many believe that this is just another part of the natural give and take of their relationship. What the Ameruans take, they give back with regular ‘maintenance’ of Ameru, making sure to clean the interior walls on a regular basis and take care to make sure the internal organs of Ameru are well kept and revered.
While Ameru is not well known for its trade, there are a variety of commodities that can only be found within the city walls. Most travelers will find a hard time, though, finding anyone willing to make an even trade, as most of the residents tend not to need anything from the outside world, finding most of it to be outside of their unique, symbiotic relationship. Still, there are odd ones who will indeed trade anything and everything for a taste of the outside world.
