Nuali, The Ancestral Grounds Main Description
Across from the Lamia island, rests the ancient homeland of the Onnen dragons. These dragons are a strange breed but they are found all over various points in Onnen. Having their own little tribes away from their homeland they almost always find their way home once a year.
These particular dragons shift between three phases: a tall lanky dragon on two legs that is humanoid, large dragon form much like in the old stories, and a human form. Depending on how comfortable the dragonkin is around you they will assume any one of these forms.
Nestled between the crashing Shilluk Ocean and the Adele Mountains, Nuali is a spiritual place with rolling plains, moving tribes, and nesting grounds from the sea to the high tops of the Adele peaks. The Joka River is surrounded by fertile lands on all sides as it cuts through Nuali.
Crystals form in certain parts along the river. When magic is applied to them they grow into a spanning bridge that helps cross the great river. Thanks to the flooding season this was deemed the best way to travel through the ancestral lands. The depth of the Joka River has never really been determined as certain parts of the river appear to have ravines down but still, flow wild. These ravines let loose bursts of air shooting water up in sprouts from time to time. At night, these sprouts become balls of fire that hover for moments at a time before descending back into the water only to repeat itself later.
Colorful tents are often seen in small tribes across the Nuali plains. Some sport more of one color than others to represent their Onnen tribe that they hail from. The color often represents what element their tribe is enriched with.
During the normal time of the year, there are perhaps only six to ten tribes that float around but once the mating season happens the lands flood with dragons. They tend to make one giant encampment as a celebration to their people and their longevity. The mating season only lasts for two months and the eggs are left in the nesting grounds of the dragonkin's choice. They are watched over by selected shaman and once the young hatch they go on a journey with a guardian back to their proper tribe. Those who wish to raise their young often stay in Nauli until their eggs hatch but many have responsibilities that they much attend to often leaving their young to the nest tenders.
Across the plains in the high rolling grass are large petrified dragon scales often the size of normal houses. These scales are from the original dragons that were created as pets by the Celestials. Some are even said to belong to Karith herself since on solar eclipses these particular scales shine bright like auroras.
Medium-sized crystals accompany the scales but they are only in the shorter grass. If one were to look from above they form the constellations that the Naulian dragons consider sacred. When the constellation is in season it’s particular crystals will illuminate at night reflecting into the sky to connect them visibly.
