Things were finally settling down after the appearance of these strange animals that kept following her and her employees everywhere. The human capacity to acclimate to situations never failed to disappoint, just like how she'd gotten used to seeing that ferret running after her everywhere. No matter what she did or how she tried to scare it off, it wouldn't leave. Just when she thought it had left, it would poke its nose out from a corner or pop out of the nooks and crannies in rooms. At the end of the day she could only throw up her hands in exasperation. Well, at least it wasn't stealing anything or causing mischief.
Suddenly, the machinery in the workshops of Antikythera shuddered to a halt. The electricity-powered engines stopped moving, and the external walkways were malfunctioning. This was impossible! She had personally installed these mechanisms and machines herself, so why on earth did they lose power? With lanterns and torches, she went to inspect the gears and cogs, checking that nothing was broken or worn out. Everything was in working order, and in good condition. "This one's fine too. What gives? Why isn't this bleeding machine running like it's supposed to?" They weren't jammed, they were oiled, the chains were still good. But when she went to check the power generators, they were completely dead. Someone had damaged her lightning towers. All the power that was used to run the machinery in Antikythera was collected from the turbulent weather outside via massive metal spires which acted as giant lightning rods. Since the area already had an overabundance of lightning, why not harness it and put it to use?
Putting on a coat, she stormed outside with a sword drawn. Whoever messed with her lighting towers would pay for their vandalism–in more ways than one. In the driving rain, she cast a protection spell on herself as she scaled up each and every tower that lined Via Fulminis. She would first start from the base, then work her way up to the top of the spire. If there were no repairs needed, she would descend and move on to the next one down the road. The weather was awful, like usual. She was fuming and grinding her teeth at the thought of catching the scoundrel who dared damage her property. It the towers weren't working properly, not only would the generators be offline, but the protective aura around their bases would be deactivated as well. The last thing she needed was to send search parties to reclaim and revive scorched corpses out in this downpour.
So far most of the towers closest to the main door were operational. But that didn't explain why the power influx had been so severely impacted. It couldn't be a void storm–that only affected magic when being used, not the collection of energy created through natural phenomena. While finishing up an inspection of a tower, she heard the sound of its protective aura fizzle and short out. Infuriated, she immediately scanned the area from on high, armed and ready. That miserable wretch, as soon as she found them, they were…
"What in the nine circles is that thing?!" There was a gigantic semi-translucent rabbit ambling down the valley like it was taking a mid-afternoon stroll. With mouth agape and eyes wide in bewilderment, she watched the moving colored mass stop and sit right next to some of her lightning towers. And as soon as it did, the lightning barriers around them began turning off. "Why you little–HEY!!!" Sliding down to the ground, she brandished her sword, and ran straight towards that magic-made vermin. She didn't care what it was or where it had come from–no one tampered with her property without her due consent!
"What are you doing here?! GET OUT! GET OUT OF MY VALLEY–YOU GIANT, OVERGROWN, SPARKLY RODENT WITH ELONGATED EARS!!!" Charging while screaming at the top of her lungs, she chased the thing through the rain and mud all the way out of Himinn Pass. Once it was at the edge of the continent, it looked around before vanishing into thin air. Panting heavily, she jabbed her sword in its direction before shouting one last time: "AND STAY OUT!"
"When all else fails, move on to plan B. And when that plan fails, move on to the next plan."
