The Harena Wastelands are expansive, but its primary feature is the Harena Desert. The desert itself is a marvel. While the rest of the climate around it is cold it is scorching hot. This is because the lands here were cursed with eternal scorching heat even during the night hours. The grass turned to sands over the centuries and the desert grew from there. Only desert life is able to survive and its even unclear how those plants are able to grow.
While there is nothing stopping adventurers from entering the desert on the coast or from the mountain, on the other side there are large waves of Harena sandstone. The waves themselves appear as if it someone took a butter knife and went over the hills spreading the sandstone. The waves are all U-shaped patterns that intersect, making some of the U-shapes larger than others. If one did not know their way through, one could get lost for a few days before finally reaching the quartz sand of the Harena.
Once past the waves, the beige-colored sand spreads for miles. The heat from the sun pours down onto the sand and all who enter the desert. Even though this place appears to be a hell hole, there is life all around. In random clusters throughout the desert there are Scaly-Stemmed Sand Plants. Their purple flowers appear extraordinarily alive when everything around them is dead.
One must be wary of hunger should one travel too long in the Harena. The only type of food that one can find growing in the wild is called the Datura. The spiky little fruit grows on a large beautiful white flower. It seems very harmless but just taking a bite of it can kill.
Near all plants in the desert there are clusters of brown stems with yellow flowers protruding out their tops. Without the yellow petals the plants look like a broom. They are a parasite and one should be careful not to get too close during the night. They will latch onto whatever they can find for nutrients. This could even mean latching onto unsuspecting adventurers.
If the wildlife doesn't kill you, then remain wary of bandits that travel in packs. Many are found scouting the areas before the rest take off upon their steeds, encircle the unfortunate and demand tribute to cross what they consider is their lands. Refusal is often met with death or enslavement for life.
In the middle of the desert there is a small lodge that sits on a shaded oasis. If one is lucky enough to stumble upon this little inn, one may pay to stay the night and survive the horrors of what lurks in the dark. The lodge itself sustains itself through an underground garden and gets fresh water from their oasis and well.
In another part of the desert, where the dunes change with the day, sometimes adventurers can find the hidden temple of a lost civilization. Rumors spread all across Revaliir of the treasure the temple hides within its sandstone walls. However, where there are promises of treasure, there are also promises of trouble lurking about. The temple is dangerous and should be treated with caution if you dare enter.
