When a famed general of the Adelunan army was encouraged to retire to Egjora due to injuries from long years of war with Vilpamolan, he knew that he could not simply enjoy the idle time. And Gunner Skjalborg was simply too wise and proud to let his military genius go to waste in retirement. So he founded a school to find the best and brightest talents to continue serving Adeluna. The whitewashed building trimmed with dark timber that served as the original school still remains in Egjora today, though the Academy that still bears his name has slowly spread across the island.

Initially, only the sons of nobles were sent to the Academy. More often than not, it was the second sons who came to Egjora to make a name for themselves, away from the shadows of their family names. But as time went on, Skjalborg saw the need to be more inclusive. In the years before his death, it was declared that anyone with a talent for handling a weapon would be granted entry into the Academy. That did not ensure graduation, but it was at least a greater chance for many of Revaliir's downtrodden to make a better life for themselves.

The first six months of training is homogenous for all new recruits, and the last month is focused on finding the best weapon for the new recruits. It is after this time that some are sent home, as the training is rigorous, and not everyone can withstand it. Some recruits however disappear, and many rumors abound as to what happens to those poor souls. Some say they crew the Navy’s ships as rowers, others guess they join the ranks of the street crews.

Several Masters reside over the various areas of the Academy, such as Archery, the Sword, Polearms, and just about every sort of weapon. A descendant of Skjalborg watches over the Masters, the current Kommandor being Rebekka Skjalborg. She is the former Master of the Axe, and took over when her father retired.

The current goal of the Academy is veiled from most, and a proper facade is carefully maintained, as with the rest of Vespora. But there is an agreement between the Kommandor and the Kantler of Egjora. The best and brightest are highly ‘encouraged’ to stay in Egjora to join the ranks of the City Guard. Those who are not the best, but still quite good, are sent to Adeluna to join the empire’s army. Those who graduate, but choose to not stay in the city or join are turned out to find their own path in the world, and are essentially exiled from Egjora.
