The Mage Academy looms over the eastern part of Iria, dominating the entire quarter of the city. And for good reason, the sprawling collection of buildings is the center of magickal learning in Parvpora. While any student with magickal talent can be accepted to study, it is expected that they already have basic schooling in reading, writing, and maths. Very rarely, an exception is made, but that rare student is expected to catch up to their classmates in very short order.
Dormitories for the students are scattered throughout the campus, allowing them to live nearest to their chosen area of study. The History of Magick, as well as Magickal Theory, are two topics commonly studied, and serve as a foundation for the specialized branches of the school. These include Alchemy, where potions and transmutation are taught, Divination, which includes Astromancy and scrying, Rune casting for those who wish to inscribe their spells, Elemental magics, which covers Air, Earth, Fire, and Water, and finally Psionics, which includes charms, illusions, and other mental magics.
Scattered throughout the campus are numerous gardens and water-gardens, designed to reduce stress in the students from the rigorous training regimen of the Academy. There are also areas designed specifically for duels between the students, each wards to prevent permanent injury and death. Instructors will hold duels between their students at time as a means of teaching them defense as well.
The Academy is well-known for another aspect as well. Its library is famous for an extensive collection of books, containing the history of Parvpora, magickal theories, philosophy, and many other topics. There are several sections to the library, with varying degrees of access. Public access includes the histories and philosophy books. Beyond that, student access is needed for even the most basic of magickal tomes, and some areas are only accessible with special permission from the Head Librarian. More advanced forms of magick, as well as those considered forbidden, are kept under lock and key, and one must have a very good reason to convince the Head Librarian to allow access to these areas.
