Kinda figured. Mercury was the only thing I could think of that would drive people mad and is also a planet you could spot in the sky. The monetary gain part threw me off until I remembered that Mercury was also a Roman God, among one of his domains was money :P

The poison was in the ice, so the poisoner drank hers before the ice melted enough to release the poison. Old murder mystery trick, but a classic. :)

Two women sit in a bar. Unbeknownst to one, the other has arranged for her to be poisoned. The poison is put in their drinks, and then served to them both. The poisoner has ten drinks, while in the same timeframe, the poisonee only has one - yet the poisonee is the one who dies.

The poisoner is not immune or inoculated, and the other does not have any physical weakness making them particularly susceptible to poison, alcohol, or anything else in their drinks. So how is this possible?
