Roughly sixty leagues off the eastern coast of the Laeto Rainforest there lies a small island, on which the port town of Yovaesh can be found. The settlement was founded by a traveling group of orcish artisans. Not fitting in with the less artistically-inclined members of their original tribes, they set off in search of a peaceful area to settle. The island that became Yovaesh Port was perfectly situated for their needs - not too far off the coast of Canelux, right on one of the main shipping routes for trade coming in from Pravpora. A large barrier reef surrounds the island with only one safe passage through it, providing a natural defense as any approaching ships can easily be seen.
The island has a natural harbor on the southern side, leading to the decision for the port’s docks to be located there. At the head of the docks, two tall stone structures have been constructed, atop which two large, polished balls of marble sit perched. The few alchemists of the tribe contrived a solution to treat the large marble pieces, where they act as guide beacons to ships coming to harbor at night.
Before long, commerce was booming on the small island - the artisans sold their wares to the different traders coming through, who in turn sold them their goods. The town is not much different from any other small port town - shop stalls line the main streets, and a tavern with an inn can be found near the docks. Housing is modest, the buildings being mostly constructed of mud and stone with grass roofs.
The Yovaeshi orcs, as they had so named their tribe, are very skilled blacksmiths, apothecaries, and tailors. As their tribe is fairly small, their wares are highly prized and highly priced. In past times, pirates had made attempts to plunder the island -but they were met with a surprise. The Yovaeshi orcs had trained themselves to become highly skilled masters in martial arts, stopping any would-be thievery in its tracks. Word soon spread of their prowess, and they were no longer a target.
A leafy plant can be found in abundance all over the island. As it was not something the tribe had ever seen, they named it Deakisi. After some experimentation with the tribes healers and apothecaries, Deakisi was found to have incredible medicinal properties when processed the right way. In their experimentation, however, the apothecaries also noted that the plant could be processed into a highly addictive hallucinogenic drug, known as Death’s Kiss. The name was derived from the coma-like sleep that users would fall into upon going into withdrawals from the drug. Though the tribe decided that the production of the drug would be against their policies, there were the few who realized what a lucrative trade it could become, and began black market sales of the product.
