Simone and Lewis had been put through the ringer with this last adventure, so they had decided to take things slow for a while. Not that it wasn’t normally slow. Simone adjusting Cantrell in her arms, his adorable white hair reminded her of how unruly Lewis’s could be. He was napping even with the weather being colder and there being tons of new noises around them.

Camille on the other hand was not being quiet, “Daddy! Daddy! Look!” Her white hair was bouncing all over the place as they walked the fairgrounds. Camille had hold of Lewis and Simones’ hands. She was skipping to keep up with their pacing.

Cantrell was in a baby sling on Simone. The loving mother kept checking in on him whenever she felt him move slightly. He was only a few weeks old at this point. He had barely gotten his grounding. If need be they had brought a nice blanket to wrap him in to keep him warm. Though his night phoenix mother appeared to be enough for the moment.

“Can we try the games?” Camille was excitedly speaking to Lewis. “And win prizes! Look at all the prizes Daddy! Maybe we can win something Janjan can take back to school with him!” Speaking of Janus and Lila, Simone knew they were wandering around here somewhere but she had opted to just let them do their thing. If anything they were responsible enough to be left alone for a night.

After their ‘little’ outing, Lewis was more alert than he had any right to be.  If anything, it was interrupting what should have been an easy night.  The ring of a bell had him counting the number of steps he could hear from that direction.  Fifteen steps.  Seven people.  One of them had tripped and hit the ground.

“I should be thankful that the other children can entertain themselves tonight,” he said as he scooped up Camille and put her on his shoulders.  “You’re almost too much to handle.  Now…what game are we playing first?”

“That one!” Camille demanded as she pointed at ‘Guess the Mimic.’  One of the other kids poked a vase, which proceeded to nip at his hand.

“Maybe…a different one?” Lewis asked.  “The mimic one might be a little much for you.”

“Nuh uh,” the determined girl reaffirmed.  “Mimic!”

Lewis looked at Simone with pleading eyes.  “Do something?”  In the back of his mind, he counted another ringing bell, followed by sixteen steps.  A man announced a prize, handing it off to a child.  Even farther back, was another kid crying because he lost a game of ring toss.  His mother was consoling him.

“What about the ring toss?” Lewis bargained.  “I’m sure you’ll have fun with that.”

“Mimic.”  Camille huffed, and pointed again.  “That way.”
