Arriese Outlands Before Sularia

The Arri Desert:
Arri is a land of beauty, it is the desert’s rose. However, Arri doesn’t begin where the oasis does. It doesn’t begin with bringing a person sanctuary after trudging through the dunes of Herana. The Herana ends far before the oasis where Sularia, the capital of Arri, resides. The sands of the Herana slowly turn color to have a crimson tint. This is Arri, the very beginning of it. It is hell for those who go unprepared. The creatures in this part of the desert are stronger, faster, and more deadly. There are wild Desert Rosenite tribes that wander this area, sometimes leaving for the safety of the Harena. They are hardier and less friendly than their Oasis sisters.

Slavers are less common in this part of the desert due to Arriese patrols. The patrols are normally made up of Oasis Rosenites, which makes them more friendlier than if one would stumble upon the Desert Rosenites for help. Desert Rosenites do not affiliate with the Court System that Sularia has and are instead governed by one lone woman, her name is Antheia. She is a true blood descendant of the Empress Willow. Her blood is closer to being pure than any of the Five Queens of Arri and she is by far older than them as well. She is a third generation Rosenite and she leads her people with honor and an iron fist when needed.

It is also common to find packs of wild Nightmares roaming these lands. These hell horses find comfort in the tragedy that befalls anyone who comes unprepared making this the perfect home for these mystical creatures of woe. Also in the vast dunes of red is a screaming sinkhole with visible spirits that seem to reach out and grab any life source that comes near it. All around the red banks of the sinkhole are bones of various creatures eroding away with the sands of time. This is the Casimir, Arri’s favored method of execution for those that deserve the most pain. It is recommended that all mortals stay away for only death lurks in the Casimir.

The Tropical Forest Before Sularia:
The wild tropical oasis before Sularia is uninhabited due to safety concerns for being outside the walls of Sularia. Many palm trees grow on the outskirts of Sularia along with Cocoa trees and Coffee plants. Arriese workers from inside Sularia come to the outskirts to collect the coffee for trade and is one of their major exports. Compared to the dry heat of the desert the oasis seems to have a humid heat making it somewhat worse on travelers who only want the comfort of Sularia.

If one finds a path it is best to follow it as they will all lead you to the gates of Sularia. There are three gates that the oasis has. The first gate, or middle gate, leads to the center of Sularia where the unaffiliated residents, shops, and other places are built. The second gate that is north from the first goes into the Oracle sector of the city where only a few chosen live and it is vastly unpopulated. The last gate is south of the first gate leading into the White Court where the military is stationed.

Sularia, Main City Description:
No matter what gate a person comes through or what method they use to arrive in Arri the most prominent feature that all can see perhaps even before they enter the oasis is the white stone castle, one of the largest of its kind. The only castle that beats it in size is Adeluna’s. Its stone structure is elegantly crafted combining many architectural designs from all over Revaliir making it one of the most unique buildings on the continents. Most of the larger windows of the castle are made from stained glass, depicting stories of the Rosenite culture. These can only be truly seen once a person arrives within the gates.

The city of Sularia is more like a small country is many cities within it. The city itself is divided into seven distinct districts: The Oracle District, The Castle District or Unaffiliated, The Red District, The Purple District, The Yellow District, The Black District, and The White District. This is because the city’s leadership is divided into five different sectors. The Castle District and the Oracle District do not count in most of the governing situations that Sularia has. Everyday Court is not brought before the Empress of Sularia who resides in the Castle. Scuffles between the five queens or major events that impact the world or Arri as a whole are brought before Empress Willow. It should be noted that despite the large population in Sularia the male to female ratio is horrid. There is one male to every ten females in Arri.

One can tell when they enter the districts when the paths change the way the bricks are designed. The Oracle District has Lapis Lazuli embedded within their bricks and the bricks are more of a white color like the castle itself. The White District has fire opals and diamond embedded gray bricks. The Red District has emeralds embedded within silver bricks. The Yellow District has yellow topaz and pearls embedded in dark gray bricks. The Purple District has opal and amethyst embedded in dark gray bricks. The Black Court has obsidian bricks. The Castle District has gold and silver bricks that pattern through the district.

The city itself is rich in the fact that they don’t use normal means of currency. This has led to hoarding and what eventually happened was that they used what they hoarded as decoration for the city. Arri has more wealth than any of the other kingdoms in Canelux if only because of their Matron Goddess. The main method of trading is just that, trading. Jewels and other wealth are used the vast majority of the time but Arri has been known to trade for water as well. Water is, after all, sacred in the desert.

All around the city are sunk in aqueducts that burst with green tinted water brought up from the underground. The water gets its color from the many minerals in the Arriese underground. The towers on each side of the castle hum with a powerful magic as runes power the towers to suck the water up from under the ground. From the tops of the tower, the water cascades down into the sunken aqueducts. This water is used for the rest of the city including their fountains. The largest of the aqueducts separates the east side from the western. A magnificent stone bridge was built for central traffics but many other bridges were also built for convenience. The courts separated by this aqueduct are the Yellow and Black Courts near the docks of Sularia.

Rose gardens are also a prominent feature of all the courts. There are many small and large ones scattered throughout the city. Some of them are even layered gardens of varying heights. For example, to get into the Purple District the city seems to elevate and one much go up a flight of stairs. By these stairs are slanted gardens. While the Red Court seems to sink down in and has stairs going down and gardens going in the same directions.

Castle District
Castle Courtyard, Afthonia Bazaar, Airship Unloading, & Festival Square
The Castle District is home to the Afthonia Bazaar. It is just off the edge of the White Court. The roads in the bazaar are all made out of mosaic stone reminiscent of Abed’s colorful decor. The stones tend to form mandalas as the paths curve and weave its way through the bazaar. The Afthonia Bazaar is the largest of its kind on Canelux. Rosenites seem to pride themselves on bringing only the best to the eyes of the world, which is why their buildings and their way of living seems larger than life.

The stalls and shop fronts of the bazaar are all decorated in bright colors. The stalls having roofs of color cloth that flutter in the breeze that Sularia generates. In the center of the bazaar is a large marble fountain of a mother with her child. There are hundreds upon thousands of silver crescents that litter the bottom of the fountain’s base. The lamps in this district are multicolored as the sun dies down providing a unique atmosphere that only the alchemists of Arri can bring.

Up near the courtyard of the castle, there is a large colorful area that is usually filled with many people paying tribute to traveling music troupes who come through. This is the Sularia Festival Square. On celebration nights alchemists release pyrotechnics into the sky for everyone to enjoy. The courtyard of the castle is also frequently filled with small children who play there as it is one of the safest places in all of Arri. That is also where the entrance to Kirika Maze is found.

Back on the surface just after the castle aqueducts, before the massive bridge to the rest of Sularia, and before the roads turn to the Red District are the Airship Docks. This is where the continental airship boards and unloads passengers. If one wishes to dock their airship they would be told this is for unloading only as it is in the middle of the city. Personal Airships are docked near the ocean and regular docks so the view of the city is not hindered. The unloading docks are enchanted pieces of wood that can collapse and expand whenever they are needed. This makes it so the docks are never obstructing the view of the city. While the docks are hidden they appear as nothing more than a performance stage.

The courtyard of the castle is available for everyone to come enjoy. It houses a variety of many different rose plants, representing the six courts of Arri. The trees in the courtyard are specially made trees called Mesmia, a weeping willow looking tree that grows roses on it during peak seasons. In the center of the courtyard is another water fountain featuring a mother of Arri holding her child. This fountain is crafted from gemstones and precious metals.

Oracle Catacombs
Off to the opposite side of where the maze begins by the cascading water is a set of stairs going underground. It goes for a bit in a steep spiraling staircase until one reaches what appears to be a vault door. In front of it is an oracle at a desk in charge of letting people in, though only those with an invitation can come in unless they are oracles.

If one can get past the oracle and into the vault doors they will find themselves on a massive spiraling staircase deep beneath Sularia. The staircase has the middle carved out so one can see deep into the dark abyss. It has railings that come up halfway to an average sized person allowing people to peer down through arch-like spaces. It seems to go on forever before hitting Arri’s underground. These are the catacombs reserved for the women who commit Eshari. The walls are carved out into beds. Each column has four beds high housing sleeping women. The catacombs are large and go on for what seems to span the entirety of Sularia. Oracles can be seen going back and forth taking care of the sleeping victims.

If one ventured deep enough into the maze they would find yet another staircase. This leads down to the underground lake of Sularia. The main source of all of Arri’s magic resides in this one spot. It is said even the Casimir is powered by the spirits of the lake. The lake glows an eerie green and orbs float and swarm depending on if they are disturbed. On the opposite end of the wall are the doors to the treasury of Sularia and… the fated cave of trials. Only the queens of Arri know what their caves look like and the caves throw out anyone not chosen to take the trials.

Cemetery
After the castle but before the Black District is the cemetery. This is where Sularia honors their dead. It is not as large as Perditi but Sularia honors their dead a bit differently than most. If they were people who had done no wrong you will find them in their respective courts. The cemetery is divided into the six courts, including the oracle court this one time.

The dead are buried but a statue is built of them as their tombstone. Memorializing the fallen’s life. The stone cutters are located in the Black Court. Children who die are placed inside of an eternal crystal coffin that one can peer into. The bodies of the children never rot or waste away and are preserved for the rest of eternity thanks to alchemical advances. Children are the lifeblood of Arri and when one dies the whole kingdom feels the weight of that death.

The Six Other Districts
The Oracle District
The Oracle District is the least populated district in all of Sularia. The only building found in the area is the Oracle Mansion where all of the oracles live if they wish. Since no one else dares build on their land the land around the mansion was turned into beautiful gardens filled with many different types of flowers and trees. It sits uphill compared to the rest of Sularia but on the same level as the Purple District.

The Purple District
This District is the home to the artists of Sularia. You’ll be able to find many workshops for a whole variety of different crafts dotted throughout its streets. In the low corner near the border of the Oracle District sits the prestigious alchemy and healing academy that Sularia has. While near the gate to Kirika Maze sits one of the largest libraries on the northern half of Canelux. The streets of the Purple District are decorated with fine statues and other works of art. Even the gardens of the Purple Court are crafted in a way that if you were to fly above they would form pictures.

The White District
The military is stationed in the White District for the most part. The roads of the White Court are more intimidating than most of the others. Statues of dragons breathing fire are how the streets are lit in this district. Dragons are also seen being lazy in large yards, free roaming until they are called on by the queen of the White Court. These dragons belong to the dragon knights of Sularia and are not to be trifled with.

Just before the tiny bridge leading to the Red Court, there is a whole section devoted to weapon and armor crafting. The best blacksmiths of Sularia live in this district. They sell their wares in the bazaar but are known to trade from their forges as well if people are adventurous enough.

Up near the bazaar is a large arena. This is the training arena where many test their skills. This is a relatively new place in Sularia since the White Queen found the once Prince of Epic’s arena entertaining. People may come here to test their skills, train their skills, or just to be entertained.

The Red District
The Red District starts the descent down to the docks in the Yellow District. Gardens line the staircases that help visitors down the hill. It is a much more elegant court than most as it is highly decorated with gold and silver even in comparison to the Castle District. Here in the Red District one can find the vast majority of all the healing clinics.

The famous herbal baths are found here. The buildings are nowhere near the beauty of Padjama bathhouse in Abed but these baths do something that those do not. These are the baths where the fighters or wounded of Arri come to heal their wounds in peace. These are large communal rooms with hardly any private areas. Herbal steam fills the area and the water is murky green thanks to the medicine in them.

All throughout the Red District are public herb gardens aside from the red rose gardens that are planted.

The Yellow District
Across the large aqueduct is the Yellow District. Here one can find the docks for both seafaring ships and airships down by the shore. This district is known for their rowdy taverns and high-end brothels. Also located in the district are the Sularia Night Gardens. These are special indoor gardens that house the nocturnal plants. The inside of these gardens are lit with crystals and have benches for those visiting. Some of the flowers in the Night Gardens glow giving the gardens a more romantic view which the Yellow Court is known for.

The Black District
Going up steep stairs from the Yellow District one can reach the Black District. This court sits on the cliffs beside the ocean. Here one can find an outpost for the assassin’s guild The Black Dagger, the building where Arri’s Intelligence Force works, and the stone masons for the cemetery.

Auzial, Academy for the Gifted

Founded fifty years after the founding of Arri itself the Academy was created by a council of five Rosenites and Empress Willow. The objective was to have a safe haven for those wounded and in need of rehabilitation. The large academy is hidden deep within the jungles of the oasis, even away from the city of Sularia.

Raised from the ground by the brightest magic users of their time, the building is constructed out of marble and beautifully carved sandstone. The Academy itself is several buildings, along with gardens, and even a hospital. A large library sits in the middle where the students of healing and alchemy come together and research.

The library itself is a large, elegantly crafted marble building. Waterfalls come down the building through carved paths, and instead of roofing there is soil with trees, bushes, and flowers planted going all the way up. The water empties into one of the many healing springs.

Inside the library hang the proteges of the academy. There are not many in the one thousand years the academy has been open, but among the portraits is a young Angela, the Goddess, way before her time was called by the World Tree. This is an honor and many strive to get hung up on the walls of the library alongside their rivals.

After the initial buildings were built, the descendants of the five had traveled all over Revaliir. Falling in love with the Kintsugi art of Ataiyo, the marble was cracked and filled with gold all over the campus. However, this is not the feature that the academy is most known for. The gardens are built on terraces and even floating above. Enchanting from Parvpora allows the platforms to rotate the gardens so they may be tended. The night gardens hidden from the sun by the day gardens. The gardens can also be reached using the many portal arches around the campus.

The arches are made from obsidian and help in cases of emergencies when rushing to the hospital and allow both alchemists and clerics to come to the rescue. The academy is surrounded by a tall sandstone gate and the strongest of the Rosenite women patrol the academy to keep it safe.

The Academy has always been a place where wars are neutral and all are healed. However, in the shadows, the Academy has also been used to bring down enemies that would have upset the balance of Revaliir. Poisons, healing potions, fertility potions, along with just about anything the mind can think of.

The Academy is the only place in Arri where you will see others using water magic as it helps keep the hot springs they use for healing flowing. Water magic is a sacred thing in Arri, but they also believe in saving as many people as possible. The hot springs are not separated by gender simply because Rosenites don't feel the need to.

The Academy is home to many from the outside world as well. Many races, from humans to gnomes, flock to learn from the centuries-old teachers the school has to offer. Dormitories are also on campus as many don't want to travel the dangerous roads from Sularia to Auzial.

Auzial also offers other programs in alchemy, magic, and various other subjects, however, it specializes in the healing arts.
