The lake was silent. The moon reflected in the still waters and illuminated the area. A dark wolf-like monster stepped on the stone pathways near the edge of the water. This monster had the figure of a wolf and yet was different. He had three white eyes that lacked any iris' and a pair of horns on his head. The rest of his body seemed to almost fade into shadows towards the edges. His teeth were sharper and he was physically taller than any wolf. Anybody could count this creature's ribs. The monster bent down towards the lake and took a sip of the water, quenching any thirst it had.

A bird flew down from the tree towards the lake to get some water. The bird wasn't far from the monster. He crept towards the unobservant bird and opened his jaws. Drool dripped from his mouth as he thought about the delicious bird. Just as he was about to bite the animal, something hit his mind. Was it guilt? Was it a conscious? Or was it fear? The feeling didn't match up with any of those. Words ran through his mind. The most important words. He couldn't kill any creature. His ears flattened as he backed away from the bird with a whimper. A loud growl came from his stomach. He had been lucky and managed to steal food when he was in town. Hunting was not an option.

His three eyes looked to the lake. Where was he? Sometimes he would travel for days to random locations. There was nowhere to go and nowhere to stay. The monster turned away from the lake and looked for a place to sleep. Choosing somewhere safe to sleep was the only reason he was alive. There was a small cave near the lake as well as a large burrow that he would just be able to fit into. The sound of the bird singing made the monster jump in alarm. The bird was singing an unfamiliar tune. Yet the tune alone made him remember something.

He opened his jaws and made a screeching half-whine half-growl that somehow made a strange tune. The tune ran clearly in his mind but he was unable to make it clear with his vocals. Words failed with his teeth and the structure of his mouth. There wasn't anyway to make the words to his song. So he had to deal with making the strange noises as he attempted to finish the tune. It was important, the song, he could feel it in his bones. The meaning of it all escaped him.

Why was this important?
