Nighttime normally was the most dangerous time of the day for anywhere in the realm, save a few places of importance. One of which was ironically the Sire of Night’s home away from home- well at least for those that gained his favor or proven themselves. Maalik had been nodding off as he burnt the candle on both ends finishing his reports for the morning. He had hoped to but the alluring call for slumber beat out his motivation and he had tucked himself into bed and drifted aimlessly in sleep before he felt someone’s presence in the room. Still, his body didn’t move for he had already assumed who it was, and sure enough, the moment Raine crawled into his bed, he was proven correct.

This wasn’t an isolated incident and from what he knew from previous times, he assumed that she was having difficulty sleeping. That’s why she would come here. It would get to the point whereby now he was used to it.

Maalik did notice something was odd as he felt her hands on his head; this was quite new. Normally she would curl up against him and probably greet him, which were then accompanied by wanting to tell himself, and afterward, she would fall asleep. But the moment his eyes shot up to look at her with a deadpan stare, he could see that something was wrong. He released a small yawn and looked out the window to see the moons high above. The timing was about right, at least for her punctuality. “Besides the fact that you aren’t sleeping? Yes, something is amidst, Raine.”

She certainly wasn’t acting like herself, that was for sure. He plopped himself up against his elbows and looked at her with a head tilt. He clearly didn’t know exactly what was bothering her, but it had to be very serious to make her cry. “What’s going on, Raine?”

If it had been any other person they would have been surely eaten alive. The moons were high above almost at their peak as the door popped open and a rainbow eye peeked in. She was quiet like a church mouse which was unlike her. Normally, she would come running in and jump on him. She would yell his name but a frown was seated firmly on her lips. They were still red from the makeup despite how she had washed. A good trait for it she had been told but it was growing tiresome for her.

Her nightgown was a sheer lace that spoke of nobility but it wasn’t really something a single female should have worn around males. Not that she understood that might. It dipped down her cleavage and showed her full figure. It had to have been something Celeste or Angela had picked out for her. Long pink hair was worn in long waves left untamed. She had woken up after a brief attempt to sleep.

Silently she entered his room like many times in the past. Closing the door behind her she crawled under the blanket at the foot of the bed and made her way up. Her body loomed over his as she pulled up. She looked sad. Her legs were positioned a bit odd if anyone didn’t know her they would think she was making a pass as one was between his against his upper thigh. Her hands were on each side of his head as her hair acted like a curtain between them.

“Lik?” Her voice was small and yet it lacked the power that she normally had when she spoke his name. Always had his name left her lips with happiness. “Is something wrong with me Lik?” Tears were at the corners of her eyes. She hadn’t wanted to ask Angela because she knew the goddess would tell her no but Maalik was always honest even if sometimes he hurt her feelings. Some of her tears fell off her face and hit his as she tried to stop herself before it got started.
