The door to the Clephsydra opened and a figure stepped out, plummeting through the air. Spreading out to reduce her terminal velocity, Shiloh channeled the air currents around her to glide towards the nearest centipede. Looking down she grumbled under her breath as she saw the dragon rip the oversized creature apart. "Well there goes the chitin plates…it'd prefer if the carcass was left in pristine condition." Here she was thinking she could get easy pickings once the dragon was done with it, but no such luck. Too much damage to the body and several legs were missing. Such was the life of scavengers, leaving the only other option being taking down one herself.
Sending a telepathic message back to the airship, she asked: 'Euripides, what do you know about the physical structure of a centipede?' Hearing the tinny voice of the automaton in her head, he replied. 'Ah yes, the centipede! Well aside from its armored, segmented body they typically possess a venomous bite. For normal centipedes this is used to either kill or stun prey. Those 'jaws' are actually not jaws at all, but where they inject the venom from so stay clear of those. Also don't bother cutting the legs–they'll regenerate.' That was all she had to go off on, so she had to make her decision quick. "Hitting it anywhere on its body'll be pointless. I guess I'll have to go for the head."
That was generally the best way to put an end to rampaging beasts, by removing the head. Using the currents to send her hurtling down, she summoned her axe and braced for impact. The axe head was able to leave a nasty crack in the chitin of the arthropod's head, but wasn't able to go all the way through. Pulling on the handle, she soon realized it was stuck as the chitin layer was extremely thick. She no longer had to worry about getting bisected, but it was starting to thrash around knowing something was on its back. Barely hanging on, she yelled at the thing: "ARGHH–STOP IT! Just hold still and let me hack off your head!" Sending a surge of electricity, the weapon acted like a conduit for the current into the creature's body. Unfortunately instead of killing it instantly, it began to spasm even more violently. The shaking made Shiloh's control on the electricity fluctuate, until it stopped flailing about. By now she was sure her staff thought she was trying to tame the thing instead of frying its nervous system.
Somehow, she noticed that if she changed the strength of the current, the centipede's body would react predictably. Two jolts made it swing its head, while different intensities made it walk at different speeds. When she stopped, the arthropod slumped over and stopped moving. Apparently she had made a rather macabre yet interesting discovery. Applying electricity to a body caused it to move even after death without the aid of spells or necromancy. However it was too difficult to figure out how to 'drive' the centipede so she opted to just roast it from inside out. Slowly breathing in, a bright flash of energy flared as several lightning towers' worth of electrical charge was funneled into the dead centipede and the smell of charred chitin and smoke filled the air. The insides were perfectly burnt, but to her surprise–the outer shell of the carcass was more or less the same.
Normally she wouldn't be in such close proximity of a fully grown dragon, but since it was preoccupied with the other centipedes from the tower Shiloh thought it was fine for now. Noticing the elemental breath it was using, she sent a telepathic message directly to it. She wasn't sure if it could even understand language, but there was no harm in trying. It worked once, maybe it'd work again. 'Oy, don't bother hitting it from the outside, just rip the head off or incinerate the innards. They're venomous anyway.'
"When all else fails, move on to plan B. And when that plan fails, move on to the next plan."
