Name: Tore Berg
Age: 50 (died at the age of 35)
Species: Vampire (turned from human)
Sexuality: Asexual
Occupation: General practitioner (former)
Religion: None
Nationality: Egjoran
PERSONALITY
Traits:+ Calm, sensible, adaptive, independent
- Lazy, self-indulgent, indifferent, unpredictable
Likes: nature, reading, solitude, winter, sleeping
Dislikes: responsibilities, hunger, violence, magic, crowded places, other vampires
Back in the days when Tore still practiced his profession his patients knew him as a kind, placid man who was always ready to lend a helping hand regardless of person’s wealth or social status. Most of his patients would’ve also added in the same breath that he was definitely a weird fellow. Despite being there whenever he was needed, Tore remained a solitary figure. Very few people knew anything about his personal life, let alone what was going on in his head. Detached, somehow – and it was always difficult to tell whether he was trying to pull your leg or not.
Tore was turned into a vampire anything but willingly, but he has grown to accept his new self over the years. So much so that he no longer even tries to identify himself as a former human. Unfortunately, deep-rooted prejudice and the years spent living cut off from society shaped his idea of being a vampire for the worse: he is a monster without a place in the civilized world, and everything that moves and doesn’t happen to be another vampire should thus be regarded as potential prey. His behaviour towards others is often indifferent and slightly disdainful due to this mindset. He doesn’t expect anything but fear or hatred from the living.
Still, Tore’s a tame sort for a vampire. He finds drinking blood from humans or humanoid creatures incredibly unpleasant and much prefers rational conversation and hasty retreats over fighting. Tore doesn’t put up with other vampires all that well, especially if they are harassing people in his territory, but he still sees them as his peers and strives to keep on polite terms with them.
APPEARANCE
Hair: None
Eyes: Black
Height: 6'7''
Ironically enough, Tore has always born a striking resemblance to ghouls and vampires you might have seen lurking on the pages of children’s books. He’s a tall, ramrod straight man with broad slanting shoulders, thin limbs and delicate, long-fingered hands. His skin is smooth, sickly pale and completely void of any body hair thanks to a rare autoimmune disease inherited from his mother’s side. The lack of eyebrows leaves the face near expressionless. Eyes are set deep in their sockets, and with the eyelids drooping over them almost drowsily, the vampire is left with an overall look of being constantly either bored out of his mind or falling asleep.
Tore’s body language is composed as a default. It’s very rare to see him making energetic gestures or exerting his facial muscles to convey strong emotions. The restrained effect is further emphasized by the fact he hardly ever smiles or laughs with his mouth open – an useful trait back when he still tried to pass himself off as a human.
Tore rarely bothers to hide his “condition” when away from the society. He prefers plain clothes of good quality and dark monochrome colours, with traditional Egjoran designs thrown into the mix whenever he manages to get his hands on them. His neck is usually exposed, revealing a distinct scar from a bite wound at his left carotid. During daytime or when venturing into highly populated areas Tore tries to cover as much of his skin as possible. Usually he ends up wearing a simple travel cloak, with a scarf thrown around his neck.
PAST
Tore spent the entirety of his short life in the city of Egjora. He grew up in a loving, yet strict environment. His father, an opinionated man and the sole owner of a small doctor’s practice, took it upon himself to mould his son into a successor he could be proud of. Tore spent his youthful days studying or helping his father on the rounds, and was eventually left to run the practice by himself. Life wasn’t exactly glamorous, but he enjoyed it nonetheless.
Then one night, as he was making his way back home from a late-night house call, Tore decided to take a shortcut through a quiet alleyway. He hadn’t made it even halfway through when something attacked him; doctor barely managed to catch a glimpse of a tall, pale figure before everything went black. When he came to, the assailant was gone and the side of his neck fashioned a fresh pair of small, neat puncture marks. Tore fell silent of the incident, hid the wounds and continued to live his life as if nothing had happened, desperately trying to ignore the pain that grew worse by the day. Eventually he became too weak to leave his home.
Time passed, until one day the doctor turned up again in perfect health, as unexpectedly as he had vanished. His behaviour on the other hand had clearly changed; he was silent, anxious and cringed at the mere sight of blood. He was often seen at marketplaces buying live animals such as rabbits or poultry, supposedly for some kind of experiments. Some even claimed they’d seen him sneaking about the streets at night carrying bags with something alive squirming inside. Finally, as Tore was treating a badly bleeding open wound, he lost his self-control and attacked the patient. The wounded man managed to ward the vampire off and escaped. Tore, horrified by what he had done and afraid of getting captured, fled the city.
Nowadays Tore wanders between society and hinterlands, not because he’s afraid of hurting others, but because he has grown fond of nature and living alone. So he claims, anyway. He seeks out small, dispersed, suitably uneducated communities, settles down in the area near them and starts to terrorize the locals until they either agree to provide him with food or suffer “the dire consequences”. He harasses those who dare to go out at night and treats local people’s belongings as his own. This continues until weapons and angry mobs get involved – then it’s time to make a hasty exit and start over somewhere else.
ABILITIES & EQUIPMENT
Weapons:TBA
Abilities:TBA
Vampirism:The strain of vampirism Tore suffers from is transmitted through bites. There is no known cure. If the victim isn’t killed in the attack, and they aren’t immune to the affliction, they’ll slowly develop excruciating pains and succumb to fever. The corpse will then rise as a vampire. People suffering from this strain can sustain themselves on any unspoilt blood, but animal blood isn’t nearly as nourishing – or tasty – as that of a person. These vampires regenerate fast, but can be destroyed in a number of ways. They are vulnerable to fire, sunlight, holy artefacts (if the vampire was religious before its death), beheading and stakes to head or heart. Wounds inflicted with silver weapons are extremely painful and will heal at a rate that would be normal for the vampire’s original species.
