Appearance and Personality:Gerard appears to be a man in his early twenties, standing at 5'11" in height. Straight black bangs sweep around his face with his raven hair ending a few inches past his ears. His eyes are a dark brown, and his complexion neither pale nor dark. He keeps his hair short for convenience's sake, and has a habit of being impeccably groomed. Overall his build is lean, being a more streamlined version of a swimmer's. His attire is tasteful but not gaudy, practical as well as stylish. Unlike the haughty air of nobility, he carries himself with a modest dignity. His physical looks belie the fact that he has lived for over a century, and by no means is he outdated. Gerard is a pragmatic man, placing a high value in good work ethic and quality craftsmanship while spurning hedonism and other materialistic mindsets. Caring little for trivialities like status and wealth, he views the arts and sciences as holders of true value manifested through talent and learned skill. Sharp-tongued and sharp-witted, he has little patience for those unwilling to learn or improve themselves and detests intellectual complacency.
Short-tempered and melancholic, he is a staunch believer of logic and reason. He dislikes things being in disarray, and is easily irritated when things do not go as expected. He is fastidious and impatient at worst, while sensible and straightforward at best. He has no reservations when it comes to informing someone of their mistakes, but is not against having his own faults pointed out. He has no room for petty emotions like jealousy or pride in his schedule. A list of things which he hates include: ignorance, arrogance, a lack of punctuality, extravagance, low standards, frivolity, and pointless small talk. Nevertheless, he is not nosy and prefers to mind his own business.
His tendency towards sarcasm and dry humor make him hard to approach, and he doesn't try make people like him. Gerard could care less for flattery and does as he pleases; he just has enough sense to avoid stepping on people's toes intentionally. His personality can be very polarizing–some may find his frankness refreshing while others may loathe his acerbic wit. In his free time he enjoys creative and educational pursuits like composing music, writing, and tending to his estate in the inner reaches of Feeorin.
History:Gerard di Vervaine was born a nokken in the cold coastal waters off the shores of Baltil. After spending a few years in the Nyella Ocean he moved inland towards Jasumin Lake where he lived for fifty years. In the past few decades he relocated to Canelux and established an estate in the eastern portion of the Highlands where he tends his beloved apple orchards and vineyards. He is well into his first century of his life, having passed his centennial last Glaciem.
Clothing and Equipment:His typical choice of attire includes formal wear composed of durable and common materials. He believes it is vital to be suitably dressed for the occasion, and saves his finer garments for when he is required to attend social events. A black overcoat over a waistcoat and white shirt with matching black trousers and leather shoes is what he commonly wears. He carries sheet music and his musical instruments while on the road, normally either a lute or violin.
Talents and Abilities:Gerard is skilled in playing a plethora of instruments; from woodwind and stringed to the occasional percussion and brass. As a musician, his preferred instrument of choice is the violin due to the wide range of sounds it can create. He is also a talented singer, though he rarely accompanies his music with his own voice. In addition, he can distinguish between subtle differences in pitch, tone, enunciation, and frequency.
As he is a nokken, Gerard is an excellent swimmer with the capability to stay submerged for extended periods of time. Drowning isn't a problem for him, and he is accustomed to living in colder climates with access to bodies of water.
