All About Icarus Valeon
Key Statistics:
Icarus places an extremely high value in loyalty and his sense of duty. He places himself in harm's way frequently to protect others and will not hesitate to die for the right cause. Those causes are fairly rare in his eyes, but if necessary, he will commonly risk severe injury to win in his endeavors. He frequently finds himself a loner and chooses not to develop too many close ties due to the loss he has suffered in his life. His brother died in battle saving him, using a forbidden magic to transfer the wounds of his body onto himself. In the war against Hell, his wife committed suicide following his death, unaware he was in the process of his first resurrection.
As such, he suffers PTSD from the memory of being torn apart by demons as well as his death at the hands of Obelisk's avatar (often called the void beast) when he faced it during the destruction of Dae Luin. He constantly looks down upon himself as a failure due to the fact that although he had done a lot of good for the people of Dae Luin, nearly all of them were wiped from existence when he failed to kill the Lord of Destruction.
Following his death, he awoke in a crater in the Bohar Plains, the darkness having left him entirely. Now devoid of the magic that had sustained a nigh-immortal existence, Icarus seeks answers and the power he once held as a means to prevent Obelisk and the destruction of this realm from coming to pass now. For the time being, he will have to return to his old ways of relying on his skill and wit to see him through.
Over the past several years, he has divested himself from the events of the world and began life as a hermit within the Void, only venturing into the normal world when his interest was piqued or he needed to shift the balance minutely in a crisis. Most of his power has returned due to countless days attuning his mana flow and removing the blockages from his body after resurrecting in this world. He spent one year disembodied and trapped within the Void after his powers went haywire and his primal instincts took over his body, creating a beast of darkness that fed on the undead and magic. The creature left a permanent imprint on his body and he is able to absorb life to heal and power his magic to a degree or maintain active magic to an extent. Prolonged use of such abilities causes burns that heal over time due to the continuous mana being forced in and out of his body. He now spends most of his time in the Void, living in the furthest reaches where reality is subjective and he practices the sword and magic against phantoms generated by his will within the area.
Personal Character History:
(Shortened Version) Icarus was born a servant and rose to freedom, fighting alongside his master and two other warriors of significant renown. He distinguished himself as an incredible tactician and ascended to the ranks of the Order of Eris, the imperial royal guard of Carnathia. He was trained by the only vampire of his reality, Cain, to heighten his reaction, senses, and athleticism beyond normal human ability. He became involved in the war to prevent demons from claiming his world, falling in battle.
After struggling through Hell, his soul returned to physical form upon his escape and he ascended to a greater sphere of power, turning the tide of battle and pushing back the horde at great cost. He has since traveled various realities without his powers in an attempt to stop the Lord of Darkness and The End, Obelisk. During those travels, he became known as the Black Swordsman, a warrior that combined the power of darkness with a will nearly unbreakable. In the end, he fought Obelisk at the end of the last reality.
He fell in battle and died a second time, recovering as a full mortal within Revaliir. The experiences he had, people he met, and wars he fought in the previous reality have added to the scars of his fractured psyche, giving way to the madness of the Black Swordsman persona. In the Castle of Dreams, a location only found in Hell, his soul was reportedly destroyed by Obelisk and he became a servant of the darkness, culling essence and preparing the path for The End.
