Theme: I'll Face Myself Flower: Primrose
Appearance and Personality:On the surface, Raizel is a reserved, no-nonsense type of person, normally settling somewhere between tactful and straightforward. Smart enough to know when to read the atmosphere while not afraid to voice his opinions, he lacks the naivete and juvenile attitude most expect from his peers. It wasn't due to being a child prodigy or genius; circumstances forced him to come to terms with the harsh reality of life at an earlier age than others. Beneath that cool exterior is someone who is both sensitive and considerate when it comes to others' needs while maintaining boundaries. Due to his past experiences living with his estranged father and half-siblings, he has a strong preference for practicality over luxury. Despite that, things with sentimental value hold a special place in his heart. His goal as an artificer is to create objects that are both useful and treasured.
His light brown hair and eyes are rather ordinary, with a slight copper tint. Hanging straight past his shoulders, his hair hasn't been trimmed often since he left to live on his own. When he works, Raizel pulls it back in a ponytail to keep it out of the way. At five feet and eleven inches, he falls in the middle of the height spectrum. Having worked odd jobs to support himself prior to his artificer training, he has an athletic build. The majority of his clothes are in neutral or cool colors, without patterns.
History:Born to a Saljian woman from Zets'Ki Cradle, Raizel was the product of a fleeting encounter between an angel and an infernal fey-like being known as a 'deva'. While his sire soon forgot the brief tryst among thousands of others just like it, his mother never did. Saira gave birth to a son on one snowy night in the angels' city, alone and without a husband. Word traveled quickly within the community, and from then on she paid a heavy price for bearing a child out of wedlock. A beloved woman prior to being named a social pariah, those who were close to her arranged accommodations for them to live outside of the city where they could avoid the scrutinizing eyes of society. It was there out on the outskirts of Zets'Ki where he spent his early years, living with his mother. Life was difficult, but they were able to get by. Despite being ostracized and shunned by nearly everyone, Saira still spoke fondly of his father even though they never met after that one night.
Then, one year his mother fell ill and passed away when her failing health took its toll. Saira's closest friends and family who were still on speaking terms with her came and handled the funeral. The decision as to who would take custody of him was hotly contested, but eventually he was rotated between his mother's friends. Those who were willing to take the orphan under their roof pitied his mother and held a deep-seated grudge against the charlatan who had seduced her, leaving her to raise a child all on her own. The fact that he bore a strong resemblance to his late mother likely had a hand in appealing to their sense of sympathy. However, when the boy's biological father came to claim him, they handed him off without a word. And so, Raizel was forced to leave behind the fond memories of his mother and the place he came to call home.
What awaited him was the chaotic household of his sire and countless half-brothers born through his philandering ways. Due to being so different in personality and temperament, Raizel was often the target of pranks and off-hand remarks while his father failed to notice. Eventually, things came to a head where he ran away from his family's villa in Iria after being accepted into a smithing apprenticeship program in Sularia. Taking what few belongings he saw as 'his', Raizel traveled by boat across the sea to the desert nation of Arri, working odd jobs to pay for his passage along the way.
Clothing and Equipment:Due to growing up in simple surroundings with his mother in his early years, Raizel prefers to wear clothing that is less aesthetic and more practical. Whatever protective gear he wears is both lightweight and flexible, and his work as an artificer has exposed him to a variety of weapon types.
Talents and Abilities:Despite his angelic and infernal heritage, he failed to inherit any notable characteristics from either bloodline. The most he gained was an above average aptitude for magic, physical resilience, and resistance against infernal and psionic influence. From the harsh self-sufficient lifestyle he had in his early years, Raizel quickly learned basic skills in repairing tools, clothes, and minor housework. Once he began to live with his biological father, that expanded into alchemy and enchantment. Excelling in elemental infusion, warding, and enhancement; most of his experience came from creating barriers and enchantments to prevent his half-siblings from touching his things or invading his privacy. In addition, he also knows some navigational skills from his odd jobs as a deckhand to pay for his trip to Canelux.
In combat he prefers to neutralize and disable enemies with strategic attacks. Having had to defend himself against his less agreeable half-siblings, he is well adapted to fighting opponents that have a physical or magical advantage over him. Adding in enchanted weapons into the mix just gives him more to work with. His favored weapons of choice are his spiked whip and war hammer; the former giving him a longer reach and the latter allowing him to create or exploit weaknesses an opponent's armor.
