Theme: Naji no UtaAppearance and Personality:His form bears long inky black hair and pale eyes like water; his complexion fair and light. As a spirit, he has chosen to take on an appearance he believes is less threatening, standing at five feet and six inches. From the way he presents himself to his actions, he acts with gentleness. Despite all the hardships he has suffered, he has never lost his kindness. Perhaps he is one of the few truly benevolent spirits that remain in the world. His attire reflects the land of his origin: Ataiyan and Karithian robes in cool colors made of cotton and silk. Common patterns of the fabric include clouds, plants, flowers, birds, and his personal favorite–koi. When he is outdoors he is always seen with one of his painted parasols.
History:Centuries ago, the spirits of Kujishoku freely interacted with the people of the kingdom of the Blue Sun. In the days where the gods were still remembered, some prayed to the spirits of the land for protection and good harvest. In those days he went by another name–Hakuren, and as a rain spirit he would bless the fields with rain showers during the heat of summer. As the years passed, the people lost their sight for the spirit realm and existences like his became fables told by parents to their children. From the edge of the bamboo forest he would watch as small villages became sprawling towns and roads widen into broad avenues. Though he could no longer be seen, he still granted rain whenever the farmers wished for it. He longed to speak with them once more, but never interfered in their lives.
Decades passed, and seasons changed. Foreigners from unknown lands came across the sea to the kingdom and folk of all appearances and occupations traded goods and ideas to the locals. On a warm summer day he met the first child who could see him in ages, not knowing this boy would change his fate in ways beyond his understanding. The boy's name was Arnaud de Sade, son of a wealthy family from Arri. It was in his visit to Parvpora that the two became acquainted. Precocious and well-learned for his age, Hakuren grew fond of him and was reluctant to see him go. The boy promised they would meet again, then they parted.
The passage of time is different for spirits compared to mortals, yet Hakuren remembered the boy's promise. Summers and winters went by and he thought the child had likely forgotten only for Arnaud to suddenly appear. Now a grown man, the rain spirit could hardly recognize his old friend. Nonetheless, Hakuren was overjoyed to see him. Upon their long-awaited reunion Arnaud asked if he still wished to walk the world like in the olden days. Hakuren said he did, and told him of his heart's desire. Being an accomplished sorcerer, Arnaud said he could make his wish come true. The kind spirit was eager to hear the man's suggestion, never thinking that his friend would harbor ill-will towards him.
What Arnaud did next was a brazen betrayal of his friend's trust. Already possessing the knowledge of his true name, the sorcerer forced the spirit into a contract, binding Hakuren as his servant. Sealing it within a scroll inside a phylactery, he subjected the spirit to carry out his every whim. From that day onward the spirit became 'Mircea', Marquis de Sade's personal servant. With each passing day the master's paranoia grew and he enforced a series of cruel restrictions that would prevent the spirit from finding ways to break the contract. First, the servant could not harm his master in any way and would protect him from all harm. Second, he could never refuse any command he was given. And lastly, he could not reveal information about his master or his contract to anyone–making him physically incapable of asking for help.
Mircea suffered years of abuse at the hands of the marquis until the man met his untimely death in the sands of the Harena on a business trip, with the phylactery on his person. In a twist of irony, Arnaud was so paranoid of the one person who never wanted to kill him only to die to circumstances outside of his control. As the marquis had no heir or remaining family, the man's entire estate and fortune went to the very servant he regarded with suspicion.
Talents and Abilities:As a rain spirit, Mircea has the power to call forth rain within a small area around him. He is talented in wind and water weaving, conjuration, and other arcane artes that involve the manipulation of water. Being a spirit of Kujishoku, he is knowledgeable on a variety of scholarly subjects such as history, literature, and certain ancient languages. His hobbies include painting, playing music, composing poems, reading, flower arranging, gardening, and caring for the koi in his garden's pond. He specializes in ink painting, enchanting his artworks temporarily to bring them to life.
