Kagiso was born to a Twa tribe who were more nomadic than the rest of the tribe. His mother was a strong Twa named Ayanda. His father was an intelligent Twa named Kgabu. They were his parents and raised him. Ayanda was often out hunting or fighting for their tribe. Kgabu preferred staying at home and raising the kids. As a result, most of the kids had a stronger connection with Kgabu more than their mother. Still the family bonds that they shared were very strong.
Growing up Kagiso learned how to run fast and hunt with rouge like abilities. Yet he enjoyed learning and telling stories much more than any hunt. Kagiso was one of the fastest Twa in his tribe. His mother grew a deeper connection with him when he was 10 because of how fast and strong he was becoming.
When he turned eleven he began running races with his siblings and became Ayanda’s pupil. Although he wanted to make his mother happy, Kagiso did not like fighting very much. Instead Kagiso preferred learning about natural herbs and listening to people in his spare time. But he wanted to make his mother happy. His siblings seemed to be happy that he was doing this too. Even Kgabu was cheering him on to go this path. Eventually Kagiso himself warmed up to the idea of becoming a warrior. Protecting his family and friends from any harm. That was his purpose in life. As a warrior he could do this.
Ages 15-19 he trained hard every single day. Of course with his free time he still trained his mind on herbs and history along with how people felt. But his main focus was on defending and hunting. It was his passion. To defend his tribe at all costs. It was his dream. He could feel comradery among the fellow warriors. They cared about each other. Trusted each other. Kagiso was able to help his warriors by both defending them, and listening to them.
One day, when Kagiso was 20, there was a mighty foe that they had to fight. A giant rhinoceros had attacked the location that they were going to visit. Kagiso and the rest of his warrior friends fought bravely. They had thought that they had beaten the creature. But when Kagiso went up to check, the rhino sprung to life and sent Kagiso flying. Kagiso landed, damaging his right leg. His friends rushed him to the healer.
Days passed but soon Kagiso managed to recover. Both of his legs were usable. But his right leg had some permanent damage. One of the muscles were weak in the way that it wasn’t before the accident. Kagiso could fight still but was not fast enough to keep up with the others anymore. His dream was shattered.
He grieved for this loss for a very long time. Many years Kagiso had spent working and dreaming about the years of protecting his family. In this one swift battle, all of that was torn asunder. His warrior friends still deeply cared for him. But they did not know what to do for him. After all, they all drew close because of their warrior status. Now that Kagiso couldn’t be a warrior, there wasn’t that connection anymore.
Kagiso’s mother remained loving and supportive. However she had also lost that warrior connection that they had. Most of his family couldn’t understand really how to help him through his dilemma. They had never experienced similar things and really just didn’t know what to say. Except for Kagiso’s father and his older brother Anele. The both of them were there listening and assisting Kagiso through this difficult time.
Kagiso revealed his intelligence about herbs and healing. So the tribe put him as a healer. Although he still longed for the more direct approach of protecting his tribe directly, Kagiso accepted this role. This was where his talent for healing and listening truly grew. Even though his tribe was not that big, there were lots of different people with different viewpoints. Those patients taught him as much as he taught them. His fascination with becoming a healer for thoughts and the mind started here.
When he was 22, he got married to a wonderful Twa named Langa. Langa was traditionally a boy’s name but apparently Langa’s mother really liked it. So it was her name now. Langa was a soft spoken kind hearted warrior woman. She didn’t really talk much but her actions spoke louder than her words. Imagine the strong but silent type. That was her. Langa and Kagiso had a strong connection to each other. Langa was able to be frank and to the point. Yet she still had kindness within that frankness. They listened and talked to each other.
Langa and Kagiso started to make a plan for their lives. They both agreed that they wanted to have kids. And although Kagiso no longer had his long held dream anymore, he was willing to accept that and take on the healer role instead. Still he was happy to live his life with Langa and really wanted to build a family with her. This was his new dream. Kagiso believed that he could provide his future kids a good life if he worked hard enough. So he worked as hard as he could as a healer. Kagiso listened to the patients, cared for them, and ensured that no matter what, they had some sort of happiness in their lives.
Langa got sick. She had an unknown disease that they had never seen before. This disease did not spread to anybody else. Kagiso had no way to save her. There wasn’t a cure despite his endless inspections and attempts. Instead, he stayed by her side. They talked and Kagiso ensured that she had all the food, water, and comfort that Langa could ever want. Kagiso never left her side. He wanted to make sure that the time they had left was spent together and happily. When she died, he waited for a long time by her side before announcing the death.
When he was 24, he delved into his studies over the mind and learning about thoughts and opinions of others. Partially because he wanted to keep himself busy. So that he wouldn’t fall into depression over the loss of Langa. Partially because he was actually interested in the topic. But eventually he ran out of things to study about within his tribe.
Kagiso gathered his family together and explained that he believed that there was more to learn and others who would need his help. There were several other healers who could take up his duty here. Kagiso wasn’t needed in his tribe as much as he used to be. Now was time for him to go and learn more about the world.
While Kagiso’s father was supportive, his mother was disappointed. Ayanda believed that Kagiso was just running away from his problems and abandoning his tribe. Kagiso explained that was not his intentions but Ayanda refused to accept this. They lost touch after her left the tribe. But Kagiso kept in touch with his father and the rest of his family. He traveled around Onnen and learned more about the mind along with how people behaved. After much study and travel, Kagiso became a therapist. He wanted to listen and help people through their problems that weren’t necessarily physical injuries.
Now he is traveling around the land trying to help people and to listen to them.
