There is nothing worse then the feeling of the unknown but for Kaede, this was reality. its been 6 months since Kaede had woken up in the Forrest and the reminder of that day makes her shudder. Kaede could remember the cold, wet grass on her skin and the feeling of the wind on her skin but she couldn't remember how she got there. Her head ached and when she reached up to hold it in her hands all Kaede got was the sticky sensation of the semi-dried blood that had now stained her white hair with red blood. Confused, she tried to stand up but the pain in her head made her feel nauseous and she quickly rested back down waiting for the pain to pass. Kaede opened her eyes and looked around, "I must be in a Forrest." Kaede thought. "How can i remember what a Forrest is but not my name."
Trying to figure out her surroundings and what had happened became overwhelming, yet she did not cry. Assessing the situation she just had this feeling that once her head stopped hurting she just had to move. Some time had passed since she had tried to get up the first time but a noise made her flinch, the sound of the grass underneath a boot. Instinct kicked in and made her forget about her head and quickly grabbing her bag she ran and hide behind the closest tree. The noise was moving closer to where she was and that's where she heard the voice.
"Kaede" It called. It sounded like a female voice, not surprising, it was one that she did not recognise. Kaede did not move she watched the figure move towards where Kaede had woken up, and watched as she had bent down to where she had been laying. The figure was tall, blonde and slim in build with a backpack on her back, there was nothing about her that seemed familiar but yet Kaede felt a little calmer.
"Kaede are you hurt? Its me Ayia"
Kaede took her sword out again out of habit and slowly came out behind the tree.
"Who is Kaede" She asked the girl named Ayia. Ayia had flinched and spun around to face her. As soon as Ayia had spun around she immediately relaxed and then started to look confused.
"Your Kaede, you do remember your name don't you?"
"I..I don't remember anything. I remember how to walk and how to talk. As soon as i heard you coming i reacted instantly to hide behind a tree, but i do not remember my name and i do not remember how i got here." Kaede spoke in a monotone voice like she did not want this Ayia to know that inside Kaede was scared, terrified and had no idea if she was to trust her. Still holding her sword up Kaede wasn't ready to put the comfort of protection down just yet.
"You don't remember anything?" Ayia asked.
"No nothing. What is your name? How do you know me?"
"My name is Ayia, we met 4 days ago you needed a guide through these Forrest. You told me your name was Kaede but i am certain you where lying about that." Ayia chuckled as she mentioned Kaede lying about her name.
"What happened to me?" Kaede asked. If Ayia had been with her the last few days then she should know what happened and what had caused the reason for her memory loss.
"I honestly don't know" Ayia frowned and looked concerned. "About a day ago we got separated, there was an attack and you suggested we split up. I have been looking for you ever since. Your hurt, if you put your sword down i can clean your head up for you." Ayia had a trusting face and a part of Kaede thought, well if Ayia was going to kill her, there was no life that Kaede could remember that she was going to miss. Kaede lowered her sword and moved forward to Ayia.
Ayia signalled for Kaede to sit in front of her. Kaede moved slowly and could feel all the hair on her skin standing up, as if she was on high alert.
When Kaede sat down, Ayia pulled a water bottle out from her backpack and started to wash it through Kaede's white hair. At first Kaede flinched from the coolness of the water and the stinging of the wound on her head but a couple of seconds passed and it was just refreshing. Kaede closed her eyes and for the first time since she woke up.
Kaede felt relaxed.
A few moments had passed as Ayia had finished cleaning her wound.
"It doesn't look deep but the blow could explain as to why you are having some problems remembering. We shouldn't stay here for to long though there is only a couple of hours of daylight left and we don't want to be caught out here at night again. There is a tavern not far from here that is where we will go"
"How do you know about wounds" Kaede asked.
"As a guide i have seen my fair share of wounds. Come on we should go" Ayia chuckled. Ayia helped Kaede up and they started the walk.
Kaede had so much she wanted to ask but she knew Ayia wouldn't know the answers. Why was she in the Forrest? Who was she before today and why did she give Ayia a fake name? So many questions and no way to find the answers.
A few hours had passed and both Kaede and Ayia had been walking in silence. Ayia had tried to make conversation but Kaede was just lost in thought. How can she still communicate and function without remembering when she lean't it or who had taught her. Ayia had broken her train of thought. "We are nearly there as soon as we past this part of the Forrest the Tavern is just on the other side." as Ayia spoke Kaede had heard a snap of a branch and signalled Ayia to be quite. Ayia's face dropped and fear and concern crossed her face within the blink of an eye. Kaede heard the shuffling of feet moving closer to them by the sounds of it, it was only one person moving and again she signalled for Ayia to hide behind a bunch of trees.
Ayia was safe behind the tree and Kaede had placed her hand on her Dagger. How she knew it was there was beyond her. As the sound moved closer the skin on Kaede's arm began to rise. She knelt down and pretended to tie her shoe so the attacker would think she was preoccupied. Kaede's heart was pumping so hard she thought it was going to pump out of her chest. Kaede was terrified but she also knew that Ayia was not a fighter and Kaede had more chance of winning a fight if it had come to that.
All of a sudden there was a large scream and a man came running full bolt at Kaede. She never had time to fully turn around before the impact of his body had pushed her over. Kaede was staring into the eyes of older man with nothing but anger shooting back at her through his brown eyes. Kaede looked the man dead in the eyes and refused to show him anything that she was actually feeling and with a hard kick she was able to kick the attack off until he was on his back. She quickly jumped to her feet and ran at man and before he was able to stand back up Kaede plunged the Dagger into his chest. Kaede watched as the man fell on his back. He was dying and again without knowing how she knew, Kaede knew he would be dead in a couple of minutes. As she was looking at the attacker dying what was once the feeling of terror and fear turned into joy. Kaede had just killed a man and she knew how but what scared and surprised her the most. Was that she really enjoyed it.
Kaede quickly picked her Dagger up, Grabbed Ayia and they both ran. Out of breath and finally out of the Forrest standing outside the Tavern Kaede and Ayia had both stopped. Kaede started to walk towards the Tavern when Ayia grabbed her arm.
"You saved my life back there and before we go in i just want to say, trust no one don't let anyone know about your lost memory. Not until you remember" The look in Ayia's eyes was enough for Kaede to just nod.
As they walked through the door's they where greeted by the loud noise of chatter and laughter. The owner looked at her in acknowledgement and recognition he called her over and proudly said he had guarded her room and no one had gone in since she left. Kaede thanked the old man and followed Ayia to her room. Kaede thanked Ayia and organised to meet her downstairs in the morning.
Kaede was exhausted and as soon as her head hit the pillow she was out. It wasn't until the sun had shone through waking Kaede did she open her eyes. Still with no memory past the previous day, Kaede was curious as to why Ayia warned her not to let anyone know about her remembering issues. She packed her things and walked down the stairs to wait for Ayia as discussed.
Kaede saw the Owner and smiled and took a seat to wait. twenty minutes later the owner had walked up to Kaede and smiled.
"What can i get you darling, do you want something to eat?" he asked.
"No thank you i am just waiting for Ayia" Kaede smiled. The owner looked at her confused.
"Ayia? who is Ayia?"
"Ayia the Forrest guide that i have been with the last 5 days. She was with me yesterday when i had returned." Kaede had said the feeling of concern bubbling up within.
"You didn't leave here with anyone and you didn't return with anyone" The owner looked at her in disbelief as panic filled Kaede but again she didn't show it.
Instead Kaede laughed "You are right, i hit my head pretty bad yesterday and i think i was just imagining her. I really should get on my way thank you so much for your help" Before the owner could reply Kaede had left the Tavern.
So many question had built up. Who was she and did she actually imagine Ayia or was she real? If she was real why did the owner of the Tavern not remember her. These where the questions that Kaede was going to have to find out. All with the Ayia's message replaying over and over "Trust no one and don't let anyone know about your remembering issues, not until you remember."
