Special Abilities: As a Hellcat, Ridgewell will sometimes change his appearance from that of a gaunt human, to a cat-demon/human hybrid. This change normally occurs when he is casting magic. He has a sharp, calculating mind always looking for loopholes or shortcuts. He is very proficient in using an umbrella sword both as a weapon and as a magical casting item.
Personality Strengths:Methodical: Due to his workings as an Officer of Hellish Dealings of the Great Purgatorial Bank, Ridgewell has a very studious mind that can process many problems very quickly. He can appraise items and deals with ease and can be extremely tactical in a combat situation. One of the few things that can distract him are round objects which he finds immensely fascinating.
Loyal: Despite the fact he is a demon from the Purgatorial Bank, or that he was forced into servitude against his will, Ridgewell is one of the most caring and loyal fiend/friend you will meet. He has immense animosity against the man who enslaved him, but has grown fond of the Davenrow family over the years. Many members of the family has earned his trust and admiration. If you earned Ridgewell's trust, he would be an invaluable asset in your life as well.
Industrious: As a demon banker he has found most profit in hard work either by his own hands or those he employs. The same applies to his position as a butler and servant. Ridgewell works with precision and purpose and finds that to be most effective even when applied to his never aging life.
Personality Weaknesses: Strict: Ridgewell runs a tight ship. He enjoys being on time every time and getting the job done right the first go around. This means he can be very critical of others work, especially of those who work under him. He often finds procrastination and laziness to be deplorable and has very little patience for failure.
Greedy: Despite his position as a servant, Ridgewell enjoys objects and possessions. He likes to make deals and is always looking for that next big "pay-day" even if that pay-day goes to his master. A big flaw of his is that he often views people as a possible profit rather than an actual, individual life.
Curiosity: This one goes without saying…
Backstory: Ridgewell is a butler. Not just any old, run-of-the-mill butler, Ridgewell is the possibly the greatest butler in the mortal plane. Ridgewell has been a loyal butler to the Davenrow family for generations. You see, Ridgewell has a complicated history both on this mortal plane as well as within the circles of hell.
Ridgewell is a Hellcat. One of the lesser demons in purgatory who deal in trade and commerce. Specifically, Ridgewell was an Officer of Hellish Dealings of the Great Purgatorial Bank. A lofty position where the demons could travel from one plane to another to deal in trade. Ridgewell was exceptional at his job and performed it with relish. This is what led him to get a little too prideful in his work when he came across a certain being of the mortal plane.
His name was Dharius Davenrow. He was a gargoyle who was tired of his lowly position and wanted wealth and power that could affect multiple cities and nations, and was willing to make a hellish deal to get it. Ridgewell was more than happy to oblige and offered Dharius multiple ships, trade routes, crews, and valuables that could affect multiple economies. Of course, these items in the deal would come at a large price…all the above mentioned in exchange for his soul to remain captive with the Officer of Hellish Dealings for as long as Ridgewell was alive.
Dharius pondered for a moment then agreed. They shook over a damned contract, Ridgewell gave all the paperwork over, and smiled as he was about to enter a hellgate back to the Purgatorial Bank. It was in his pride that he forgot a warning. A warning to demons who encounter mortals on their own plane. A warning to watch out for a game that can turn the tables on demons who enter into mortal territory. It is a game of periphery and trickery where a human will hold a ritualistic gesture of the thumb and pointer finger in a circle out of normal view. If the demon is dumb enough to look at this circle they are held against their will and are forced to be servants to their captor’s bloodline for as long as it exists.
At that moment, Ridgewell was that dumb demon. As Dharius called to the Hellcat, Ridgewell turned back to the gargoyle who placed his hand in that gesture by his thigh. The Hellcat looked down at the circle and felt his will power get sucked into the ritual. It was here that Dharius new that his soul was already forfeit from the deal but he took great joy in knowing that his creditor was under his control. For years Dharius built up an economic empire in trade and transportation, all the while with Ridgewell serving as his butler.
Years passed and eventually so did the life of Dharius Davenrow. Ridgewell has been handed down through the family and over time has grown quite fond of the Davenrow’s. He still has a great hatred for the man who put him into servitude. In fact, the Hellcat keeps his soul in a ball that he will take out and play with from time to time. Ridgewell has now survived multiple masters and is currently on his favorite, Sirvius Davenrow. Ridgewell desires to make certain that his deal will continue to come to pass for the Davenrow bloodline but there are times he can’t help but wonder what it would be like to be free again…
