Over a thousand years ago, Nikolaus was born into a wealthy family. The eldest of a sister and a brother. His family were the lords of the land. His father ruled over his land with malice and cruelty. He had any woman he wanted and beat anyone who got into his way. His mother could do nothing, but live with the man she married.
One day, with the help of others, she escaped with her three children. Nikolaus was seventeen at the time. He would soon become a soldier for his father. His mother didn’t want that for any of her sons, so they left. They lived deep in the woods and off the land. They lived happily among the animals and the occasional visit from the people who helped her. One was the right hand of Nikolaus’ father. No one had question him of his loyalty.
Nikolaus vowed to take care of his family, no matter what. Almost 13 years later, with a child of his own and a wife, they lived nearby his mother and his siblings. His sister would be married soon, his youngest brother stayed with his mother to take care of her. He wasn’t in love yet to marry. Their mother taught them much of love throughout the years.
With a seven year old son and a beautiful wife, they lived in harmony. Until one day the wrong person walked by when the Lord’s right hand was visiting. Messages were sent out to the Lord. One morning, instead of waking up to the laughter of his family, he woke up to screams and strong arms grabbing him out of bed. Being dragged out of his home, his brother was the first to be killed by his father’s hand. One after another they were killed before him. The second hand of the king was also killed. Even his dear son and wife. They would all die at his father’s hand.
Nikolaus was the last to die, the Lord’s favorite son. Being left for dead, a figure came up. Checking each for life, his father’s goal was for Nikolaus to die slowly and look over the bodies of his family. On the verge of death, the vampire came to him. “Do you want your revenge? Do you want to live without fear of dying?” The voice had asked him. With a yes, Nikolaus was made vampire.
Soon, Nikolaus had got his revenge and wasn’t sure what to do next. His maker offered him to travel with him. He has long forgotten the name of his maker, he was killed only two years after he had made him. Nikolaus had roamed the lands for centuries alone. He never made one vampire. He couldn’t put his fate on another, to roam the world alone and cold.
After centuries, he met an elemental, Clyde Vladimir. Men came for Clyde deep within a forest. Nikolaus was close and saved him. They had been friends ever since.
With years of friendship under their belt, Clyde had asked Nikolaus for a favor. To look after his child, Angelique. Her mother had died, and he could no longer see her. He had fallen in love with a married woman and she named him Angelique’s Godfather. She wasn’t ready for the truth, and Clyde had to leave. Nikolaus didn’t need a reason. The child was around fourteen of age when he met her. Beaten and broken. She continued to thrive even though the laugh she lived was a rough one. He could almost relate to her, both their fathers hated them.
They had made a friendship over the years, until one day her father had took it too far. He waited outside for her. As soon as he saw her, he picked her beaten and broken body in his arms. His heart ached, he wanted to kill the man himself, but he knew she had to do it. He had asked her the question he was asked, “Do you want your revenge? Do you want to live without a fear of dieing?” She agreed, and killed her father.
Many years had passed while they roamed the lands together. She had became like a daughter to him. He loved her dearly and never wanted to leave her side. But the day came she had to live on her own, Clyde had called him and he needed to go alone.
Leaving her in her own care, he went to Clyde who was searching for her Uncle. A man who had killed his beloved sister and kept slipping through his fingers. They would end up on the shores of Revaliir, searching for the murderer.
When a Maker child dies, they can feel it. He had felt an ache in his chest until the day he saw her working in an inn on Revaliir. She was young a beautiful and human. No longer a vampire that she used to be. Seeing her happy, he had left her alone for years, until he finally decided to see her. He couldn’t stand the ache in his chest anymore. When they saw each other, they spent hours together. She would then ask him to make her a vampire again. “I want to live without fear of dying.” She repeated the words he spoke to her all those years ago. He accepted.
He spent many years watching over Angelique, now with her lover at her side. He has left to find his own way without her. A ward who became his daughter.
